Computer Aided Learning (CAL) :  At present Computer Education is being provided by the State Education Department. The syllabus is also prescribed by the State Education Department. To provide computer education, department has hired the services of junior and senior computer instructors on contract basis from the Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC- under the aegis of the Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration. SSA supplements the efforts of the state by providing the following facilities for computed aided learning in govt. schools.
  1. Computer Labs have been setup/ strengthened in 53 Govt. Schools, most of these labs are situated in govt. schools of rural areas & colonies.
  2. K-Yan multimedia machines were provided to 3 Govt. Schools for multimedia teaching. K-Yan is portable multimedia machine fitted with LCD Projector, CPU and Multimedia digital contents developed by ILF&S.  These multimedia machines are used by the teachers as a technology teaching aid in classrooms.
  3. Technology Assisted Teaching was implemented in 17 Govt. Schools. For this programs only those schools were selected which do not have space for setting up of computer labs. Under this Programme TVs, DVD Players and Multimedia Contents were installed in the classrooms of schools. These schools are having multimedia contents procured from NIIT for classes 6th to 8thin the subject of Maths, Science and some topics of Social Studies.
  4. SSA has set up Multimedia Rooms in 33 Govt. Schools for audio video teaching.

To provide the satisfactory quality of education in Govt. Schools following Computer Aided Learning materials have been supplied to Govt. Schools.  The digital contents have been mapped by the school teachers according to subject and classes. Following digital contents have been supplied to Govt. Schools: l  42 Multimedia based CDs developed by Azim Premji foundation meant for 1st to 8th classes in the subjects of English, Maths, Environmental Science, Hindi, Science, and General Science in Hindi and English language. l  40 CDs sets of multimedia based CDs developed by Head Start, Madhya Pardesh meant for 1st to 8th classes in the subjects of English, Hindi, Science, Maths and EVS to 25 Hindi medium govt. schools.  l  45 DVDs supplied by NIIT under Technology Assisted Teaching to 17 Govt. schools in the subject of Maths & Science for upper Primary Classes. l  41 audio, video & multimedia CDs developed by NCERT to all Govt. Schools for multimedia teaching.             Before initiating of Computer Aided Learning Programme, subject teachers teaching at elementary level were provided training on basic computer skills and use of technology as a teaching aid.

The details of the teachers covered under various training Programme are given below:

Ø  2316 teachers were given training on use of computer aided learning material and development of lesson plans using PowerPoint.

Ø  Focus of training: Introduction to Computer and its parts, making files and folders, creation, editing and modifying files in MS-paint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Create Lesson Plans,  Topics related to CAL, How to view, copy CD content and Uses of Internet & E-mail.
